FALA has the most robust training program in the state, offering classes from the Panhandle to the Florida Keys, in addition to online training. Below is an overview of our educational offerings. COURSES

ALF CORE Training (26-Hour)

For preparation of state-mandated competency exam.

26 CE credit hours

ALF Core Training is designed for prospective assisted living facility administrators in preparation of taking the state-mandated competency exam and meets the requirements in Florida Statute 429.52 and Florida Administrative Code 59A-36.011. This program is approved for 26 hours of nursing home administrator and nursing continuing education credits and is reported directly to CE Broker.

Upon completion of the training, students must register with The MacDonald Research Institute (TMRI) to take the Core Competency Exam. The exam fee is $200 payable to TMRI. To access the TMRI exam schedule or for information about core test reviews, click this link.

Core Training classes are 4 days total and class hours are usually 8:00am-4:30pm unless otherwise noted. Classes begin promptly each day. Please allow sufficient travel time for weather, parking and traffic.

ALF CORE Refresher (12-Hour)

For general refresher and those who completed Core Training.

12 CE credit hours

This Core Refresher Training class is part of a 4 day Core training either in person or online.  It will consist of a review of the laws and rules and is designed for those individuals who completed Core Training no more than 2 years ago, or for any individual who wants a general refresher on the current rules and regulations.  Changes to assisted living regulations can occur annually based on legislative updates and during the interim periods in rulemaking. This class will provide an overview of the more difficult sections of the regulations, as well as a review of all current changes to the statutes and rules.  This class will satisfy 12 hours of continuing education. 
 
This is a two-day class, and class hours are usually 8:00am-3:00pm unless otherwise noted.

Adult Family Care Home Training (12-hour)

Training for individuals who wish to apply for a license as an Adult Family Care Home Provider.

12 CE credit hours

This 12-hour training is required by Florida Statute 429.75 for individuals who wish to apply for a license as an Adult Family Care Home Provider. This is a two-day class and students must attend both days.

Extended Congregate Care Training & Continuing Education

For ECC Administrators and ECC supervisors in need of CE hours.

4 credit hours

ECC Training is required for the Administrator and the Extended Congregate Care (ECC) supervisor, if different from the Administrator, in facilities that have the ECC licensure. This initial training must be completed prior to a facility receiving its ECC licensure or within 3 months of beginning employment in the facility as an Administrator or ECC supervisor. This class will satisfy the requirements of Section 429.52, Florida Statutes to maintain ECC continued education. Successful completion of the ALF Core Training is a prerequisite for this training.  RNs receive 4 hours of continuing education, which will be reported directly to CE Broker.  This class will also satisfy the 4 hours of continuing education required every two years.

Adult Family Care Home Continuing Education

Required annual training for maintaining licensure as an Adult Family Care Home Provider. 

3 CE credit hours

This 3-hour continued education training is required annually by Florida Statute 429.75 for individuals to maintain their license as an Adult Family Care Home Provider.

Dietary Update Training

For Administrators and food service supervisors' annual requirements.

2 CE credit hours

Florida Administrative Code 59A-36.011 (7), F.A.C. requires that the Administrator or person designated by the Administrator as responsible for the facility's food service and the day-to-day supervision of food service receive a 2-hour update annually in topics pertinent to nutrition and food service in an assisted living facility.

Medication (Med Tech) Training 

For unlicensed staff providing management of medications.

6 CE credit hours

This 6-Hour,  medication in person training will satisfy the requirements under Ch. 429.52(b), F.S. and Ch. 59A-36.011(6), F.A.C.

Medication (Med Tech) Training & Continuing Education

For unlicensed staff providing management of medications.

2 CE credit hours

Unlicensed persons, as defined in Section 429.256(1)(b), F.S., who provide assistance with self-administration of medications and have successfully completed the initial 6-hour training, must obtain annually a minimum of  2 hours of continuing education training on providing assistance with self-administration of medications and safe medication practices in an assisted living facility. The 2 hours of continuing education training shall only be provided by a registered nurse or licensed pharmacist. The 2 hours of continuing education can be face-to-face or by webinar.

Trained unlicensed staff, prior to the effective date of the Rule, May 10, 2018, who assist with the self-administration of medications and have successfully completed 4 hours of assistance with self-administration of medications training, must complete an additional 2 hours of training that focuses on the new topics of Chapter 429.256(3), F.S. and Chapter 59A-36.011 (6) (c), F.A.C. before assisting with the procedures listed.

ServSafe Food Manager Training & Test

This program satisfies the requirements to become a certified Food Manager pursuant to Chapter 64E-11.012, F.A.C and Chapter 59A-36.012, F.A.C. This training and certification are good for 5 years.

The ServSafe Food Manager program broadens your understanding of the principals and practices of safe food management and equips you with the valuable knowledge needed to run a safe, sanitary, and positive food service environment. Residential Facilities that are required to maintain a Department of Health food certificate, such as, but not limited to:
  • Assisted Living Facilities
  • Non-Residential
  • Hospices
  • Adult Day Cares
  • Intermediate Care Facility for the Developmentally Disabled (ICFDD)
  • Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC)

Establishments that serve highly susceptible populations, or that have three or more employees at one time engaged in the storage, preparation or service of food, must have at least one certified manager present at all times when these activities are taking place. A Food Manager is a person who is responsible for the food establishment and/or has direct authority, control or supervision over employees who engage in the storage, preparation, display, or service of foods. A Certified Food Manager is one who has passed a written certification test, which has been approved by the Department, and demonstrates a basic knowledge of food protection practices.

First Aid | CPR | AED Certification Training

For employees needing First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

4 CE credit hours

This program covers the required training for employees needing First Aid/CPR/AED certification training pursuant to Chapter 59A-36.011(5), Florida Administrative Code.  This training must be taught by a certified American Red Cross instructor; an accredited college, university or vocational school; a licensed hospital; the American Heart Association, the National Safety Council; or a provider approved by the Department of Health.
 
Classes are 4 hours:  (Make Note of Your Class Times) Most Classes are 12pm to 4pm
